WEC tonight on Versus

A huge card tonight starting at 9pm on Versus. Tonight is the debut of Jens Pulver in WEC as he fights Cub Swanson. But most importantly, there are 3 title fights.

The featherweight title will be on the line when Urijah Faber defends his belt afainst Jeff Curran.

Paulo Fihlo defends his middlewight belt against Chael Sonnen.

Doug Marshall defends his light heavyweight title against Ariel Gandulla.

Anyone catch this? Pretty good card overall.

Both Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver won their respective fights. Setting up a HUGE and awesome fight down the road for the featherweight belt.

I would like to see Faber vs. Kid Yamamoto. Will it ever happen? Probably not but it would be interesting.

Although the commentators didn't seem to understand the guillotine variation there, that was one of the oldest forms of the hold. Blade of your forearm goes across the throat and then you grab the tricep or push on the trap with the other hand (grabbing tricep works better and it's what Jens used at first, then was forced to switch). You now basically have a figure four with with your arms and tighten. Much tighter than basic guillotine and more importantly harder to counter or escape.

I have a book by George Hackenschmidt from 1910 showing the hold and have seen pics of Hugh Leonard showing the hold prior to 1900.
